Description
Beautiful colors and excellent condition describe this vintage can of F. W. Woolworth varnish. Brand name Home Cote it features great graphics and few blemishes on the label. Displays very well. It's a small can, just 3 inches tall. It feels like it might be full, perhaps even unopened as there is not spill around the top rim.For those of us of a certain age, you might remember Woolworth's, first opened in 1879, as the powerhouse variety store through the 20th century and into the 90s when competition forced it into bankruptcy in 1997. Woolworth's was made infamous for the 1960 lunch counter protest when *"
four African American college students sat down at a lunch counter at Woolworth’s in Greensboro, North Carolina, and politely asked for service. Their request was refused. When asked to leave, they remained in their seats. Their passive resistance and peaceful sit-down demand helped ignite a youth-led movement to challenge racial inequality throughout the South."
Thanks for considering this vintage Woolworth item. Please see my other listings for more great packaging and vintage design.
Seller: oldoswego, on eBay since 1998.
